Infosys building strategy for winning US federal government contracts
Infosys has named Eric Paternoster as the CEO of the Infosys Public Serivces Inc to tap into US Government projects. Eric was heading the Insurance, Healthcare & Life Sciences group of Infosys in North America.
Federal government contracts are very lucrative for consulting firms but need local presence, local delivery capability and more paperwork to get through with lower margins. I would have thought that Infosys to get into the US market will create an entity with a different branding, hire more DC-Belt insiders if they are looking for federal government contracts and hire manpower from local biggies who focus on government contracts. Going after state government contracts is lucrative too but requires more decentralized approach.
Infosys which has taken a fairly long time building a successful consulting practice which is still evolving, looks like may be using a different tact to build their public sector practice by having an insider build the organization.
A number of other firms are firming up their domestic presence to showcase that they are getting more local and are interested in federal government contracts. TCS, Wipro are also working to build their federal government practice.
