Syntel opens up new facility in Chennai
Syntel, Inc. , a global information technology services and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) firm, will officially inaugurate the first phase of its state-of-the-art technology campus in Chennai, India on Saturday, May 22, 2010.
Located on a 29-acre parcel in a tax-free Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Syntel’s Chennai campus is being constructed in multiple phases and will eventually provide capacity for over 10,000 employees.
The campus design is based on the concept of a cell and all structures are intended to blend organically with their surroundings, bringing ample natural light and views of the landscape into the work environment.
“This is a very exciting milestone for Syntel,” said Prashant Ranade, Syntel CEO and President. “For the past several years we have made aggressive investments in our people and infrastructure, and our new Chennai campus will ensure Syntel can meet client demand.”
The first phase of Syntel’s Chennai campus consists of three software development blocks, a 900 seat dedicated training block, dining facilities, and a welcome center. In total, the first phase of the facility covers 650,000 square feet with capacity for over 5,000 employees. The first building with 1,750 seats is operational and an additional 3,200+ seats will come online in the near future.
The Chennai campus features world-class infrastructure and security, including 10/100/1000 voice and data networks, a 10 gigabit Ethernet backbone, and dual level biometric based security for the data center. The campus also features eco-friendly design and is in the process of becoming LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certified.
The opening will be attended by dignitaries from the government of Tamil Nadu, the Indian state in which the development campus is located. The formal inauguration address will be given by Dr. M.K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister, and Dr. Poongothai Aladi Aruna, the Minister of IT for Tamil Nadu will attend.
“The global outsourcing market is going through a period of rapid expansion and our new Chennai campus represents the next generation of global development facilities,” said Ranade. “We designed this facility with our clients in mind, with scalability and flexibility to adapt to specific customer requirements and a changing technology landscape.”
Syntel also continues to expand its SEZ campus in Pune, with a planned 4,200 additional seats as well as a 1,200-seat training block, a cafeteria and recreational facilities.
