Wipro shuffles the deck for top management

Wipro has been expanding in a number of non IT related areas including defense, consumer products ( they already have a presence there), green initiatives etc., education ( via AzimPremji foundation). This looks like a way to realign some of the leadership and give them options to do other things. The Premji foundation has also recently invested around Rs 200 Crores ( approx. $44 million) in Manipal University an education services firm looking to build universities in India and abroad.

Wipro Ltd, India’s third largest software vendor, named Anurag Behar co-chief executive of the Azim Premji Foundation, the non-profit education arm run by the company’s chairman, as part of changes announced on Wednesday.
Behar, who heads the infrastructure engineering division and moves to the foundation starting 1 July, will help set up the Azim Premji University, a training institute in Bangalore for teachers, Wipro said in a release. Dileep Ranjekar will be Behar’s co-chief executive at the decade-old foundation, which covers around 20,000 schools, working with governments across nine states.
Pratik Kumar, Wipro’s head of human resources, will take additional charge as president of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, which includes the hydraulics and water businesses.
T.K. Kurien, president of Wipro Consulting and the company’s telecom and strategic initiatives, will head Wipro EcoEnergy from 1 April.
