Infosys continues to talk about acquisitions in the Europe and Japan and hire more staff in the US. They plan to double their staff in the US and hire additional 1000 people. Out of a total of approx 105,000 employees Infosys has, 1200 of them are based in the US. A small percentage of their total head count but Infosys like other India based firms are realizing that they need a presence closer to the decision makers and more locals to win deals and manage client relationships.
Majority of the US based positions for India based firms are billable or have quotas to fill and are rarely purely operational roles. There are consulting roles which need to be on site but those are seen more to provide a pathway to offshore more work. For the margin expectation which the markets have from Infosys and other Indian vendors, a larger percentage of the work will continue to be handled in offshore locations.
