FACT BOX: Top three IT vendors in India revenue share

DATE: June 26th, 2008

A recent study by Forrester concludes that the top three IT companies from India - TCS, Infosys and Wipro have widened their growth story relative to other players and continue to drive a majority of the IT exports from India. With the three firms accounting for 46.4% of exports from India compared to 26% back in 2004.

I have always been of the view that the scale is going to be critical in competing for larger deals and for growth. The smaller and mid size firms are good acquisition targets for larger entities or need to offer a true vertical offering to survive. The smaller firms I don’t believe are going away but will continue to struggle to grow.

A # of firms have tried to build niches or focus on a given vertical but will have to build deeper skill set and domain expertise.

There is also an opportunity for these firms to create a partnership model with larger firms to compete and survive.
