Wipro Eco Energy, the newly-floated arm of global IT services company Wipro Limited, is all set to provide consultancy services related to renewable energy and other eco-friendly activities by this year end.

“A team has already been constituted, which will provide its ‘green’ consultancy services bundled with the existing offerings. We are planning to offer services to help corporates by leveraging our expertise in reducing carbon footprint,” Sudarshan SA , vice-president (renewable energy business), Wipro, said here on Thursday.

For this, he said, Wipro was targeting customers who are in energy-intensive industries, off-grid locations and institutes that consume more power. The company is also looking at building a core team of talented professional with expertise in renewable energy technologies like solar, wind turbines, biogas and biofuel, and in the geothermal space.

Wipro itself, for instance, is purchasing biomass-generated power to meet 30 per cent of the power requirement of its Hyderabad operations. Wipro Eco Eye, an initiative adopted to make internal operations green, had resulted in 13 per cent reduction in the average electricity consumption in 2007-08 and meets 52 per cent of its water requirement with recycled water.

According to Sudarshan, as part of the Carbon Disclosure Programme (CDB), a report on Wipro’s carbon footprint is expected to be ready by the end of this December, which would be tied up with its financial reporting. “We currently have about 2.5 million sft of IT space under construction. This is expected to be increased to 4 million sft in the next 12-18 months. All these new 10 buildings will conform to the green norms,” he said.
