It is interesting to see that the China entry and growth story for Indian vendors after years of growth promise has still been very muted. Some of the larger IT services players - genpact, Infosys etc.. have all made inroads into China to set up operational basis but the revenue contribution from China is still insigificant. I wonder is it because of the business environment in China, the focus on manufacturing industry or the ability of global players to break the Chinese market. I remember reading a recent article about how the executive MBA programs which were set up with big fanfare in China have all been shutting down or reducing their program offering.
Globally every country seems to be struggling with talent ,education system and bringing right skill set workforce to the employers and NIIT has done a tremendous job in introducing job related skill set education in India but seem to have stalled in their growth now.
Interesting to see late runners like Educomp and other firms overtaking NIIT to be the education companies of the future

India’s IT learning solutions provider NIIT Ltd is opening up a training centre in Dalian in Northeast China, further expanding its footprint in the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
“The centre will come up in August and we are planning to train around 1,000 professionals in our first year of operation in Dalian. Later, we are aiming to scale it up to 10,000 a year in the next three years,” said NIIT President Prakash Menon on Thursday.
The Delhi-based company also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Shui On Land to set up training facilities inside an upcoming software park being built by the top Chinese real estate developer in Dalian, an IT hub.
The MoU was signed at the China International Software and Information Service Fair 2008 (CISIS) between NIIT Chief Executive Vijay Thadani and Shui On Land Chairman Vincent Lo.
“As China moves from a manufacturing-led economy to service-led economy, the IT services sector offers huge growth opportunities for companies,” he said.
China would continue to grow at 8 per cent to 10 per cent per annum in the next few years and there was immense potential for IT training and education in the country, he said.
NIIT has presence in 172 locations across 65 cities in China and has training tie-ups with over 150 colleges and universities.
