As part of its expansion drive, Chennai-based Sundaram Business Services (SBS) is setting up a new BPO facility at Madurai next month. To be located on a rented premises, it will have a manpower strength of 100 initially. This figure will be scaled to 500 in the next 12 to 18 months. The Madurai expansion will raise the headcount of the Sundaram BPO to 2,500 this year.
“An investment of Rs 5 crore is planned on the facility, which will initially provide policy administration services for one of our leading life insurance customers,” Managing Director, T T Srinivasaraghavan, Sundaram Finance, told mediapersons here on Monday.SBS is the BPO arm of the financial services company Sundaram Finance and has a strong presence in the BFSI and manufacturing space. Currently 85 per cent of SBS revenue comes from the domestic market and the balance from the Australian outsourcing market. A large presence in the domestic market in the non-voice area has helped insulate the company against the fallout of a depreciating dollar.Srinivasaraghavan said that SBS would continue to expand its presence in Australia where SBS had a strong client base in the accounting services area.Executive Director P S Raghavan pointed out that a robust public transportation system with quality talent pool, which could be trained and deployed, was the main reason for SBS selecting Madurai for its new facility. The company also plans to open another facility at Trichy during 2008 with a similar investment. SBS will end the fiscal with a turnover of Rs 30 crore compared to Rs 17 crore in FY’07.
